Mosaica Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 18, 2026
Mosaica turns a photo into mosaic, stained-glass, pointillist or pixel art. Think of this policy as a set of tiles: each one covers a single piece of the picture, from the photo you start with to the artwork you take away.
The whole picture
- There is no Mosaica account, and we run no server that holds your photos or artwork.
- Photos you bring in, the drafts and artworks you make, and your saved looks stay on your iPhone.
- You can make art entirely on the device. If you choose to use AI and tap Allow, a reduced copy of the photo you are working on and your style note are sent to DeepSeek for that request.
- No ads, no analytics or attribution SDKs, no cross-app tracking, no purchases, and no App Tracking Transparency prompt.
Tile 1 — Your starting photo
You can pick a photo from your library, take a new one with the camera, or use the sample picture that ships with the app. Mosaica keeps a copy of the photo you chose in its private storage so it can render and re-render it. It does not upload your library or look at photos you did not pick.
Tile 2 — Your style note
You can type how the artwork should feel, or tap Speak the mood. Speech is transcribed on your iPhone only; if on-device recognition is not available, you type instead. Audio is not stored or sent anywhere.
Tile 3 — Making the art
On this device. Render on this device creates looks entirely on your iPhone. Nothing is sent.
With AI (optional). Generate and Refine can ask DeepSeek's AI service to read your photo and suggest how warm and how detailed each look should be. This is off until you tap Allow on Mosaica's AI screen. For each request Mosaica sends:
- a copy of the selected photo, scaled down to at most 768 pixels on its longest side;
- the style you chose and the style note you wrote or spoke;
- short notes from looks you kept before, used as preferences;
- random identifiers of your earlier artworks, which do not identify you.
DeepSeek returns only a few settings and a short phrase; the artwork itself is still painted on your iPhone.
Not sent: other photos, the full-resolution original, audio, location, contacts, face data, or any account or advertising identifier.
The request travels over an encrypted connection directly to DeepSeek, which can see the connection's IP address and handles the request under its own privacy policy (linked from Provider policy in the app). We cannot promise how long DeepSeek keeps what it receives. Avoid using AI on photos showing people or information you would not want to share.
Stopping AI: choose Not now, or turn Use AI off in Settings. Further requests stop and on-device rendering keeps working. Turning AI off cannot recall a photo DeepSeek already received.
Tile 4 — What stays on your iPhone
- copies of photos you started from and the sample picture;
- drafts, kept artworks and favorites;
- saved looks and preference notes from earlier choices;
- your AI choice and other settings.
None of this is copied to us, and Mosaica does not use iCloud sync.
Tile 5 — Permissions
| Permission | When asked | Purpose | | --- | --- | --- | | Photos | When you open your library in Mosaica | Showing your photos so you can pick one; you can also use the system picker, which shares only the photo you choose | | Camera | When you tap Take a photo | Capturing a new picture to turn into art | | Microphone and Speech Recognition | When you tap Speak the mood | Turning your spoken mood into a style note on the device | | Photos (add only) | When you export | Saving the artwork PNG to your Photos library |
Every permission is optional and can be changed in the iOS Settings app. If you decline one, the other ways of making art still work.
Tile 6 — Sharing you choose
Exporting saves a PNG to Photos or opens the iOS share sheet. The image goes only where you send it.
Tile 7 — Purchases and Apple
Mosaica is free and has no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Apple handles App Store downloads under its own terms.
Tile 8 — Keeping and clearing
- Not this discards a draft.
- Delete removes an artwork from your gallery; saved looks can be removed one by one.
- Clear local data in Settings erases Mosaica's photos, drafts, artworks and preferences from the device.
- Removing the app also deletes its data. Without an account or cloud copy, we cannot restore it.
- Images you exported are managed in Photos or wherever you shared them.
Changes
If Mosaica begins collecting or sharing information differently, we will update this policy and its effective date before release.
